The Most Expensive Service Station in the World……..Ever!!!

As I have said, since I have been back in the country I have spent a great deal of time driving around visiting friends and relations and on one such jolly I made my way to Plymouth to see my friends mark and kate and their sons Ben and Sebastian.

This drive takes about 4 hours from Oxford and if I am in the car I don’t stop at all. On a motorbike however I generally need a rest and some fuel after 2 so I usually stop at Gordano Services just south of Bristol on the M5. I don’t know why I chose that particular one but it fits nicely into the journey and I feel in passing Bristol I have covered a significant part of the journey.

I have always found it to be a nice stop and have quite often sat with a coffee and a bun or a sandwich in the carpark watching the world go by.

NO MORE!!!!!

This time I arrived and went in as usual, had a pee and then went to the cafe to get a bite to eat and a coffee. Bearing in mind I had just got off a bike and had been concentrating fairly hard I must have been in a bit of a daze as I picked up a sandwich and ordered a latte. I don’t recall it being a particularly exotic sandwich and the latte was just………..well………..a latte.

I arrived at the checkout and the serving person looked at what I had and said……”That’ll be 8 pounds 25 please.”

“8 pounds 25 pence for a latte and a sandwich?………..no it f**king won’t.” I said and put my purchases back down on the counter and walked out feeling somewhat shaken.

Now I know that service station food has always been overpriced and really I should expect no less but really how can that be right??? I mean he just stood there without a trace of guilt on his face and said “8 pounds 25″!!! like it was ok!!!! You can go into Pret a Manger and get 2 sandwiches and a coffee for 8 pounds 25.

So needless to say I will not be stopping at Gordano Services again and I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone either…………..not that anyone ever asks for a recommendation for a services. I know I have been away for a while but have prices risen that much??????
